A highly entertaining and enjoyable evening was had by all at the 2014 James Plunkett Short Story Awards night, 4th November, at the Irish Writers’ Centre, with Booker and IMPAC nominee Donal Ryan an excellent speaker. Our thanks to him for having to play such a difficult role of judge, highlighted by the three prize winners. Choosing between them all could not have been easy, as well as having to leave out others, with only three prizes on offer. Congratulations to all who entered.

However, there could only be three winners and they were PAT MURPHY (1st place, ‘Fifty Cheers’), DEIRDRE MANNING (2nd place, ‘An Odd Way Of Loving’) and KEVIN HURLEY (3rd place, ‘Letters To A Mother’).

Congratulations to all three and our thanks to them for reading on the night. We can now look forward to the 2015 James Plunkett Awards, so get writing!
